చేదు అంటే కాకరకాయ, వేపాకు వంటి వాటి రుచి; బాధాకరమైనది అనే అర్థంలో కూడా వాడతారు (చేదు అనుభవం).

Chedu (with a long e) means bitterness, the taste of bitter gourd or neem leaves; it is also used for something unpleasant, as in a bitter experience.
