Pages are static files delivered by Cloudflare. Our code does not record which pages you read. Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser details to deliver the service and protect it from attacks, and may set strictly necessary security cookies (see Cloudflare's privacy policy). The fonts and the tool that makes share images are also served from this site: there are no third-party scripts, fonts or embedded videos.

Search runs on our server, and our code does not store what you search for. However, for requests that reach our server code (search, the forms and a few technical addresses) Cloudflare keeps short-lived technical logs: the address requested (which includes your search words), the time and technical details of the request. The site team can see them in the Cloudflare account to find and fix faults. On Cloudflare's free plan they are kept for up to 3 days. Our code writes only the type of an error to these logs, never what you typed into a form. We keep these logs switched on, for the short period above only.

The name, email, topic, related page (if you give one) and message you send through the contact form are delivered by Cloudflare's email service to the site owner's mailbox. They are not stored in the site's database or published, and are used only to reply to you. How long these emails are kept: 12 months after the last message in the conversation; after that we delete them from our mailbox.

A correction report (page address, type of problem, description and, if you give them, a source, name and email) is stored in a private database (Cloudflare D1), and a copy is emailed to the site owner. Only the site team sees them. Name and email are optional; the email is used only to reply to you and is never published. Resolved reports are deleted from the database 12 months after their last update; open reports are kept until they are resolved. How long the email copies are kept: we delete them 12 months after the report is resolved.

A rights or takedown report (page addresses, type of concern, your relationship to the material, what you ask us to do, description and, if you give them, the basis of your claim, name, organisation and email) is stored in a private database, and a copy is emailed to the site owner. Only the site team sees them. Name and email are required because we must be able to reply; they are never published. These reports are a legal record, so they are not deleted automatically. How long they are kept: 3 years after the matter is closed, after which the site team deletes them (by hand, not automatically); open reports are kept until they are resolved.

The site currently publishes and stores no recordings. The signed consent form and contact details of anyone who contributes a song, story, performance or recording are not on this website or in its source code; the site owner keeps them privately. Personal details such as a name or place are published only if the contributor allows it, and contributors who prefer to stay anonymous are credited as anonymous. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

To limit form abuse we hash your IP address with a secret salt and use the hash only to count how many forms were sent in a day. The IP address itself is not stored; the counters expire within two days and are removed in a later clean-up. We do not use a third-party CAPTCHA.

If you choose a second language in the dictionary, that choice is saved only in your browser (localStorage, key ts-second-lang). It is not sent to our servers, is not a cookie, and disappears when you clear browser data.

Where a page offers a share image, the image is made on your own device when you ask for it; it is not sent to us or stored by us. If you share it, your device's share screen sends it to the app you choose. The "Send the link on WhatsApp" and "Share the link on Facebook" buttons open those services with the page link; from there their own privacy policies apply.

Our code sets no cookie for readers. The only cookie our code sets (ts_review) is given to the site owner on signing in to the private editorial review area: it is strictly necessary for that sign-in, expires after 8 hours and is never sent to other sites. As said above, Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies.

We are based in India, and this policy is governed by the laws of India. For personal information the laws that mainly apply are the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The provisions of the 2023 Act on these rights, and their rules, come into force in stages: under the government's notification of 13 November 2025 they take effect 18 months after that date. Once they are in force, you may have, under that Act, the right to ask for a summary of the personal data we process about you, to ask us to correct or erase it, to nominate a person to exercise these rights for you in the event of your death or incapacity, and to have a grievance dealt with by us. You can also write to us before that date. To use any of them, write to us through the contact form and say which page or message it is about; we will reply there. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you may, once those provisions are in force, complain to the Data Protection Board of India as the law provides. You can also ask about any report or message you sent through the contact form.
