Who they were

Best-known works

The Telugu work traditionally credited to him as poet is the Amuktamalyada (also called Vishnuchittiyam), a prabandha. Its central story is that of Vishnuchitta and his foster daughter Godadevi; it is also said to contain counsel on the governance of a kingdom (subject to verification). Many accept that he himself wrote it; other works credited to him are not detailed here.

Place in Telugu literature

Tradition says that eight eminent poets graced Krishnadevaraya's court, known as the Ashtadiggajas. The list of the eight is given differently by different accounts; Allasani Peddana is the poet most commonly named among them. His age is often described as a golden age of Telugu literature, which is a common opinion rather than an established fact.
