Allasani Peddana

అల్లసాని పెద్దన 16వ శతాబ్దం తొలి భాగంలో విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్యంలో శ్రీకృష్ణదేవరాయల ఆస్థానంతో ముడిపడిన తెలుగు కవి. ఈయన రచించిన మనుచరిత్రము తెలుగు ప్రబంధ సాహిత్యంలో ప్రముఖ కావ్యంగా పేరొందింది. సంప్రదాయంగా ఈయనను "ఆంధ్ర కవితా పితామహుడు" అని పిలుస్తారు.

A Telugu poet linked with the court of Krishnadevaraya at Vijayanagara in the early 16th century, best known for the prabandha Manucharitramu. Tradition calls him "Andhra Kavita Pitamaha".

Allasani Peddana was a Telugu poet who, by tradition, was a leading poet at the Vijayanagara court in the time of Krishnadevaraya, around the early 16th century. His name usually appears in the traditional list of the court poets called the Ashtadiggajas, though that list varies from one account to another. His best-known work is Manucharitramu, also called Svarochisha Manusambhavamu. It is a prabandha built on the story of the birth of Svarochisha Manu from the Markandeya Purana, and is said to be dedicated to Krishnadevaraya. A prabandha is a long narrative poem that gives much weight to description and ornament. Other works are attributed to him, but nothing is said about them here (subject to verification).
