Place in Telugu literature
Instead of a style heavy with Sanskrit vocabulary, Somanatha used native metres such as the dwipada and the language of everyday speech, so his works are valued as important examples of Telugu as ordinary people spoke it. He is often said to hold a leading place in the development of the Telugu dwipada poem. Scholars differ somewhat about his period (subject to verification).
