Pingali Surana

పింగళి సూరన 16వ శతాబ్దంలో ఉన్న తెలుగు కవి. రామాయణ, మహాభారత కథలను ఒకేసారి చెప్పే ద్వ్యర్థి కావ్యం రాఘవపాండవీయము, కళాపూర్ణోదయము అనే ప్రబంధం ఈయన రచనలుగా ప్రసిద్ధి.

A Telugu poet of the 16th century, known for Raghavapandaviyamu, a double-meaning poem that tells the stories of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata together, and for the prabandha Kalapurnodayamu.

పింగళి సూరన విజయనగర యుగానికి చెందిన తెలుగు కవి; ఆయన కాలాన్ని సుమారు 16వ శతాబ్దంగా చెబుతారు. అష్టదిగ్గజాలు అనే సంప్రదాయ జాబితాలో ఈయన పేరు తరచుగా వస్తుంది; ఆ జాబితా అన్ని గ్రంథాల్లో ఒకేలా ఉండదు. ఈయన పోషకులు, జనన మరణ సంవత్సరాలు, స్వస్థలం వంటి వివరాలను ఇక్కడ ఇవ్వలేదు (సరిచూడాలి).

Pingali Surana was a Telugu poet of the Vijayanagara age, placed around the 16th century. His name often appears in the traditional Ashtadiggajas list, which is not the same in every account. His patrons, birth and death years and birthplace are not given here (subject to verification).

ప్రసిద్ధ రచనలు Best-known works

రాఘవపాండవీయము ఒక ద్వ్యర్థి కావ్యం: అంటే ఒకే పద్యాలకు రెండు అర్థాలు వచ్చేలా రాసి, రామాయణ కథను, మహాభారత కథను ఒకేసారి చెబుతుంది. కళాపూర్ణోదయము కల్పిత కథతో నడిచే ప్రబంధం; దీనిని తెలుగులోని విశిష్ట ప్రబంధాలలో ఒకటిగా తరచుగా చెబుతారు. ప్రభావతీ ప్రద్యుమ్నము కూడా ఈయన రచనగా చెబుతారు (సరిచూడాలి).

Raghavapandaviyamu is a dvyarthi kavya, a poem whose verses carry two meanings so that the story of the Ramayana and the story of the Mahabharata are told together. Kalapurnodayamu is a prabandha built on an invented story and is often counted among the distinctive prabandhas in Telugu. Prabhavati Pradyumnamu is also said to be his (subject to verification).

సూరన భాషపై పట్టు, శ్లేష వంటి పదచమత్కారాలలో నైపుణ్యం ఉన్న కవిగా పేరొందారు. ప్రబంధ యుగ కవులలో ఒకరిగా తెలుగు సాహిత్య చరిత్రలో ఆయన పేరు తరచుగా ప్రస్తావించబడుతుంది. ఆయన రచనల గురించి ఇతర మూల్యాంకనాలను ఇక్కడ ఇవ్వలేదు.

Surana is known as a poet with a command of language and a skill in wordplay such as double meanings. His name is often mentioned in Telugu literary history among the poets of the prabandha age. Other evaluations of his works are not given here.
