ఉపమ అంటే పోలిక; సాహిత్యంలో ఒక వస్తువును మరొక వస్తువుతో ఉమ్మడి గుణం ఆధారంగా పోల్చి చెప్పే అర్థాలంకారం.

Upama means a comparison; in literature it is the simile, a figure of meaning that compares one thing with another on the basis of a quality they share.

అర్థాలు Senses

  1. పోలిక; ఒకదానితో మరొకదానికి ఉన్న సాదృశ్యం.

    A comparison or likeness between two things.

    • ఈ రెండు సంఘటనల మధ్య ఉపమ చెప్పడం సరికాదు. — It is not right to draw a comparison between these two events.

  2. సాహిత్యంలో ఒక వస్తువును మరొక వస్తువుతో, వాటిలోని ఉమ్మడి గుణం ఆధారంగా, పోల్చి చెప్పే అర్థాలంకారం.

    In poetics, the simile: a figure of meaning in which one thing is compared with another through a quality they share.

    పోలికను తెలిపే వలె, లాగా, వంటి వంటి పదాలు సాధారణంగా ఉపమలో కనిపిస్తాయి.

    • వీరుడిని సింహంతో పోల్చి చెప్పడం ఉపమకు ఉదాహరణ. — Describing a hero by comparing him to a lion is an example of a simile.
