నిర్వచనం Definition
అభ్యుదయం అంటే ప్రగతి, ఉన్నతి. అభ్యుదయ సాహిత్యం అంటే సామాజిక మార్పును, సమానత్వాన్ని, శ్రామిక జనుల జీవితాన్ని ప్రధానంగా చిత్రించి, పాత అన్యాయాలను ప్రశ్నించే రచనల ధోరణి. ఇది అఖిల భారత స్థాయిలో 1930ల నుంచి ఏర్పడిన అభ్యుదయ రచయితల ఉద్యమం ప్రభావంతో తెలుగులో వ్యాపించిందని చెబుతారు (కాలాలు సరిచూడాలి).

లక్షణాలు How to recognise it
తరచు చెప్పే లక్షణాలు: శ్రామికులు, రైతులు వంటి సామాన్యుల పక్షం వహించడం, వాస్తవిక చిత్రణ, సరళమైన వాడుక భాష, ఛందోబంధాలను వదిలి స్వేచ్ఛాయుత రూపాలను వాడడం. అన్ని రచనల్లో ఇవన్నీ ఉంటాయని కాదు.
Features often mentioned: siding with ordinary people such as workers and farmers, realistic portrayal, simple everyday language, and use of freer forms instead of fixed metres. Not every work shows all of these.

తెలుగులో ఈ ధోరణిని ముఖ్యంగా శ్రీశ్రీ వంటి కవులతో అనుబంధించి చెబుతారు. ఉద్యమం ఎప్పుడు మొదలైంది, ఎవరిని చేర్చాలి, విప్లవ సాహిత్యంతో దీని సంబంధం ఏమిటి అనే విషయాల్లో అభిప్రాయభేదాలు ఉన్నాయి, అందుకే ఇక్కడ నిర్ధారించలేదు. ఈ పేజీ ఏ రాజకీయ దృక్పథంపైనా తీర్పు ఇవ్వదు.
