సామాజిక సాహిత్యం అంటే సమాజంలోని పరిస్థితులను, సమస్యలను చిత్రించే లేదా ప్రశ్నించే రచనలు. ఇది చాలా విస్తృతమైన దృష్టి కాబట్టి దీని సరిహద్దులను ఖచ్చితంగా చెప్పలేం.
Samajika sahityam is writing that portrays or questions the conditions and problems of society. It is a very broad lens, so its limits cannot be stated exactly.

సామాజిక సాహిత్యం అంటే వ్యక్తి కంటే సమాజం, దాని ఆచారాలు, అసమానతలు, సమస్యలు ప్రధానంగా ఉన్న రచనలు. రచయిత ఆ పరిస్థితులను చిత్రించవచ్చు, విమర్శించవచ్చు, మార్పును కోరవచ్చు.
Samajika sahityam is writing in which society, with its customs, inequalities and problems, matters more than the individual. The writer may portray those conditions, criticise them, or call for change.
లక్షణాలు How to recognise it
తెలుగులో 19వ శతాబ్ది చివరి నుంచి సంఘ సంస్కరణ దృష్టితో రాసిన రచనలు, తర్వాతి కాలంలో కులం, వర్గం, లింగ అసమానతలను చిత్రించే కథలు, నవలలు, నాటకాలు, కవిత్వం కనిపిస్తాయి (కాలాలు సరిచూడాలి). గుర్తించే లక్షణాలు: సమాజంలోని సమస్య కేంద్రంగా ఉండడం, వాస్తవిక చిత్రణ, సంస్కరణ లేదా నిరసన స్వరం.
In Telugu one finds, from around the late 19th century, writing with a social-reform outlook, and later stories, novels, plays and poetry that portray inequalities of caste, class and gender (dates subject to verification). Signs to look for: a social problem at the centre, realistic portrayal, and a tone of reform or protest.
