దళిత సాహిత్యం అంటే దళితుల జీవితానుభవాన్ని, కుల వివక్షపై ప్రశ్నను వ్యక్తం చేసే రచనలు. తెలుగులో ఇది ప్రత్యేక సాహిత్య ఉద్యమంగా 1980లు, 1990ల నుంచి వ్యాపించిందని చెబుతారు (సరిచూడాలి).

దళిత సాహిత్యం అంటే దళిత సమాజ అనుభవాలు, కులం వల్ల కలిగిన అణచివేత, వివక్ష, ఆత్మగౌరవ ఆకాంక్షలను ప్రధానంగా వ్యక్తం చేసే రచనలు. కవిత్వం, కథ, నవల, ఆత్మకథ వంటి వివిధ రూపాల్లో ఇవి వచ్చాయి.
Dalita sahityam is writing that mainly expresses the experiences of the Dalit community, oppression and discrimination caused by caste, and the aspiration for self-respect. It has appeared in forms such as poetry, the short story, the novel and autobiography.
లక్షణాలు How to recognise it
తరచు చెప్పే లక్షణాలు: స్వానుభవం నుంచి రాయడం, కుల వ్యవస్థపై ప్రశ్నలు, ఆత్మగౌరవ స్వరం, తమ భాషా వ్యవహారాన్ని (మాండలికాన్ని) వాడడం. అన్ని రచనల్లో ఇవన్నీ ఉంటాయని కాదు.
Features often mentioned: writing from lived experience, questions about the caste system, a tone of self-respect, and use of the community's own speech (dialect). Not every work shows all of these.

దళిత సాహిత్యాన్ని ఒక ఉద్యమంగా చూసినప్పుడు అది తరువాతి కాలానికి చెందినదిగా చెబుతారు. అంతకుముందు కులం, వివక్షల గురించి వచ్చిన రచనలను (ఉదాహరణకు గబ్బిలం) ఆ ఉద్యమానికి భిన్నంగా చూడాలి; వాటిని ఉద్యమంలో భాగంగా చెప్పడం వివాదాస్పదం కావచ్చు (సరిచూడాలి). ఉద్యమం ఎప్పుడు, ఏ సందర్భాల్లో మొదలైందనే వివరాలు, రచయితల పేర్లు ఇక్కడ ఇవ్వలేదు.
Seen as a movement, Dalit literature is said to belong to a later period. Earlier works on caste and discrimination (for example Gabbilam) should be distinguished from that movement; counting them as part of it may be disputed (subject to verification). The details of when and in what circumstances the movement began, and the names of writers, are not given here.
