Telugu numerals (the digits)

Definition

The Telugu script has ten digits for writing numbers. They are rounded in shape like the Telugu letters. With them any number can be written in the place-value way (ones, tens, hundreds).

Today newspapers, books and even Telugu textbooks mostly use the international digits. Telugu digits are seen in some older books, in modern editions of inscriptions, and in verse numbers (subject to verification). For how numbers are said in words, see the page "Sankhya vachakalu". Some write the word for five as "ayidu".
