నిర్వచనం Definition

వర్ణమాల అంటే భాషలోని వర్ణాల వరుస. తెలుగు వర్ణమాల ప్రధానంగా రెండు భాగాలు: అచ్చులు (స్వరాలు) మొదట, హల్లులు (వ్యంజనాలు) తరువాత. వీటికి తోడు అనుస్వారం (సున్న), విసర్గ వంటి గుర్తులను కూడా వర్ణమాలలో చెబుతారు.

తెలుగు లిపిలో ప్రతి హల్లు అక్షరంలో 'అ' అనే అచ్చు ఉంటుంది (క = క్ + అ). మరో అచ్చు చేరినప్పుడు ఆ అచ్చు గుర్తు హల్లుకు చేరుతుంది (కా, కి, కు).

A varnamala is the row of the letters of a language. The Telugu varnamala has two main parts: the achulu (vowels, svaras) first, and the hallulu (consonants, vyanjanas) after. Signs such as the anuswara (sunna) and the visarga are also named along with it.

In Telugu script each consonant letter carries the vowel "a" (ka = k + a). When another vowel is added, the sign of that vowel joins the consonant (kaa, ki, ku).

గమనికలు Notes

వర్ణమాలలోని అక్షరాల సంఖ్య గ్రంథాన్ని బట్టి మారుతుంది: ఋ, ౠ వంటి అక్షరాలను, సున్న, అరసున్న, విసర్గ వంటి గుర్తులను, ఇప్పుడు వాడుకలో తక్కువగా ఉన్న అక్షరాలను లెక్కించే పద్ధతి పుస్తకాల్లో భిన్నంగా ఉంటుంది. కాబట్టి ఇక్కడ మొత్తం సంఖ్య ఇవ్వలేదు (సరిచూడాలి).

వర్ణం (ధ్వని), అక్షరం (వ్రాత రూపం) అనే పదాలను చాలా పుస్తకాలు కొంచెం భిన్నంగా వాడతాయి; వాటి గురించి 'వర్ణం, అక్షరం, పదం, వాక్యం' పేజీ చూడండి.

The number of letters in the varnamala differs by book: how to count letters such as vocalic ru and ruu, signs such as the sunna, arasunna and visarga, and letters now rarely used, varies among books. So no total is given here (subject to verification).
