అకర్మక క్రియ అంటే కర్మ లేకుండా వాక్యాన్ని పూర్తి చేయగల క్రియ. పని కర్తలోనే ముగుస్తుంది, లేదా కర్త ఉన్న స్థితిని చెబుతుంది.

An akarmaka kriya is a verb that can complete a sentence without an object. The action ends in the doer, or the verb tells a state the doer is in.

క్రియను 'ఏది?' లేదా 'ఎవరిని?' అని అడిగి చూడండి. సమాధానం రాకపోతే అది అకర్మక క్రియ.

పిల్లవాడు నవ్వాడు. (దేనిని నవ్వాడు? సమాధానం లేదు.)

ఆమె ఏడ్చింది.

అతడు నిద్రపోయాడు.

Ask "what?" or "whom?" of the verb. If there is no answer, the verb is akarmaka.

pillavadu navvadu. (He laughed what? No answer.)

ame edchindi. (She wept.)

atadu nidrapoyadu. (He fell asleep.)

This is a textbook-level account. Books do not classify verbs of motion (vellu, vachchu) alike; some treat them differently when a destination is named (subject to verification). An akarmaka verb may become sakarmaka when it is turned into a causative.
