నిర్వచనం Definition

ధాతువు అంటే క్రియ యొక్క మూలం. ఇది క్రియా రూపాలన్నిటికీ ఆధారమైన భాగం. దీనికి కాలాన్ని, పురుషను, వచనాన్ని తెలిపే ప్రత్యయాలు చేరి వాక్యంలో వాడే క్రియా రూపాలు ఏర్పడతాయి.

The dhatuvu is the root of a verb: the part on which all the forms of the verb rest. Endings that show tense, person and number are added to it to make the verb forms used in sentences.

క్రియా రూపం నుంచి ప్రత్యయాలను తొలగిస్తే మిగిలే మూలమే ధాతువు.

చదువు: చదివాడు, చదువుతున్నాడు.

తిను: తిన్నాడు, తింటాడు.

చూడు: చూశాడు, చూస్తాడు.

ప్రత్యయాలు చేరినప్పుడు ధాతువు రూపం కొద్దిగా మారుతుంది (చదువు నుంచి చదివ-). ఈ మార్పుల వివరాలు వ్యాకరణ పుస్తకాల్లో ఉన్నాయి; ఇక్కడ అవి ఇవ్వలేదు.

The root is what remains when the endings are taken off a verb form.

chaduvu: chadivadu, chaduvutunnadu.

tinu: tinnadu, tintadu.

chudu: chushadu, chustadu.

When endings are added, the shape of the root changes a little (chaduvu to chadiv-). The details of these changes are in grammar books and are not given here.

ఇక్కడ ఇచ్చింది పాఠ్యపుస్తక స్థాయి వివరణ. ధాతువును ఏ రూపంలో చూపాలనే విషయంలో పుస్తకాలు ఒకే విధంగా చెప్పవు; కొందరు పై ఉదాహరణల్లో వలె చివర ఉకారంతో ఇస్తారు, కొందరు ఆధునిక భాషా శాస్త్ర దృష్టితో వేరే విధంగా విశ్లేషిస్తారు (సరిచూడాలి). ధాతువుల వర్గీకరణ (ఉదాహరణకు చివరి అక్షరాన్ని బట్టి) ఇక్కడ ఇవ్వలేదు.

This is a textbook-level account. Books do not agree on the form in which a root is shown; some give it with a final "u" as above, and modern linguists analyse it in other ways (subject to verification). Classifications of roots (for example by their last sound) are not given here.
