భూతకాలం

Bhootakalam (past tense)

భూతకాలం అంటే గడిచిపోయిన పనిని తెలిపే క్రియా కాలం. తెలుగులో ఇది సాధారణంగా తిన్నాడు, చదివాడు, వచ్చింది వంటి రూపాల్లో కనిపిస్తుంది.

Bhootakalam is the past tense: the tense of a verb that tells of an action already finished. In Telugu it is usually seen in forms such as tinnadu, chadivadu and vachchindi.

నిర్వచనం Definition

భూతకాలం అంటే ఇప్పటికే జరిగిపోయిన పనిని చెప్పే కాలం. సంప్రదాయ వ్యాకరణంలో వర్తమాన, భవిష్యత్ కాలాలతో పాటు ఇది మూడు కాలాల్లో ఒకటి.

Bhootakalam is the tense that tells of an action that has already happened. In traditional grammar it is one of the three tenses, along with the present and the future.

గమనికలు Notes

This is a textbook-level account. Some books divide the past into kinds (for example a completed action and an action with a continuing effect); those divisions are not given here. Three tenses is the traditional method, and modern linguists describe past and non-past instead (subject to verification).
