కారకాలు

Karakalu (case relations)

కారకాలు అంటే వాక్యంలో నామవాచకానికి క్రియతో ఉండే సంబంధాల రకాలు. సంస్కృత వ్యాకరణ సంప్రదాయంలో కర్త, కర్మ, కరణం, సంప్రదానం, అపాదానం, అధికరణం అని ఆరు కారకాలను చెబుతారు; వీటిని విభక్తులతో సరిపోల్చి చూపుతారు.

Karakas are the kinds of relation a noun has to the verb in a sentence. In the Sanskrit grammatical tradition six are named: kartru, karma, karana, sampradana, apadana and adhikarana; they are usually matched with the cases.

నిర్వచనం Definition

A karaka is the role a noun plays in relation to the verb of a sentence. Vibhakti is the form added to a word; karaka is the role that form expresses. Traditionally six karakas are named:

Kartru: the doer.

Karma: the thing on which the action falls.

Karana: the means of the action.

Sampradana: the one to whom something is given, or for whom the action is done.

Apadana: the point from which something is separated.

Adhikarana: the place or time that supports the action.

గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples

The six roles can be seen across a few sentences: ramudu kattito pandunu koshadu. intlo kurchuni pillalaku pandlu ichchadu. chettu nundi pandu ralindi.

ramudu: kartru (prathama).

pandunu: karma (dvitiya).

kattito: karana (tritiya).

pillalaku: sampradana (chaturthi).

chettu nundi: apadana (panchami).

intlo: adhikarana (saptami).

This matching is the usual one; the same karaka can appear in different cases. For example, in a passive construction the doer is in the tritiya.

గమనికలు Notes

This is a simple textbook-level account. Tradition does not count the shashthi (relation) among the karakas, since it relates two nouns. Telugu school grammar gives more weight to the vibhaktis, and a discussion of karakas appears only in some books; the count and the definitions differ by book and by modern linguistic analysis (subject to verification).
