కర్తరి, కర్మణి ప్రయోగాలు

Kartari and karmani prayogalu (active and passive constructions)

కర్తరి ప్రయోగం అంటే కర్తను ప్రధానంగా చేసుకుని చెప్పే వాక్యరీతి; కర్మణి ప్రయోగం అంటే కర్మను ప్రధానంగా చేసుకుని చెప్పే వాక్యరీతి. ఇవి ఆంగ్ల వ్యాకరణంలోని active, passive voice లకు సుమారుగా సరిపోతాయి.

Kartari prayogam is the construction that puts the doer first (active voice); karmani prayogam is the one that puts the object first (passive voice).

నిర్వచనం Definition

In the kartari prayogam the doer is the main element: the doer is in the prathama vibhakti and the verb tells what the doer did. In the karmani prayogam the object is the main element: the object comes in the prathama vibhakti, the one who did the action is marked by the tritiya vibhakti (cheta), and the verb tells that the action was done.

గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples

కర్తరి: రాముడు పని చేశాడు.

కర్మణి: రాముని చేత పని చేయబడింది.

రెండు వాక్యాల అర్థం ఒకటే; ప్రాధాన్యం మారుతుంది. కర్మణి ప్రయోగంలో క్రియకు సాధారణంగా 'బడు' చేరుతుంది (చేయబడింది).

Kartari: ramudu pani cheshadu. (Rama did the work.)

Karmani: ramuni cheta pani cheyabadindi. (The work was done by Rama.)

The two sentences mean the same; the emphasis changes. In the karmani prayogam the verb usually takes "badu" (cheyabadindi).

గమనికలు Notes

This is a textbook-level account. The karmani prayogam is said to be less common in everyday spoken Telugu, appearing more in writing or in translation (subject to verification). Some books mention a further construction; it is not given here. The names and number of constructions differ by book.
