నిర్వచనం Definition
A sarvanamam (pronoun) is a word used in place of a noun (a name), so that the name need not be repeated.
By person:
Uttama purusha, the speaker: nenu ("I"), memu ("we", not including the listener), manam ("we", including the listener).
Madhyama purusha, the one addressed: nivu or nuvvu ("you"), miru ("you", plural or polite).
Prathama purusha, others than speaker and listener: atadu ("he"), ame ("she"), adi ("it"), varu ("they", people), avi ("they", things).
Textbooks also list interrogative pronouns (evaru, "who"; edi, "which / what") and the reflexive pronoun (tanu, "oneself").
ఉపయోగం Where it is used
Pronouns take case endings in a sentence just as nouns do, and the form of the verb changes with the pronoun that is the subject (nenu vachchanu, nivu vachchavu, atadu vachchadu). A particular feature of Telugu is the difference between "memu" (we, excluding the listener) and "manam" (we, including the listener).
గమనికలు Notes
Note that in Telugu grammar "prathama purusha" corresponds to the English third person and "uttama purusha" to the first person. The forms given are examples; pronoun forms vary with region and register (literary or spoken). This is a textbook-level account.
