Prabandha sahityam (prabandha literature)
ప్రబంధ సాహిత్యం అంటే ప్రబంధాలు అనే దీర్ఘ పద్యకావ్యాల సమూహం. వర్ణనలు, శృంగారం, అలంకారాలు వీటిలో ప్రధానంగా ఉంటాయి; ఈ రూపం సుమారు 16వ శతాబ్దంలో బాగా వికసించిందని చెబుతారు.
Prabandha sahityam is the body of long verse kavyas called prabandhas. Description, love themes and figures of speech are prominent in them; the form is said to have flourished around the 16th century.

Prabandha sahityam is the body of kavyas written in the prabandha form. They are generally long poems in verse, divided into ashvasams; a Puranic or invented story is expanded with descriptions and figures of speech. The form itself is explained on the prabandham concept page; this page is about the group of works written in it.
లక్షణాలు How to recognise it
గుర్తించే లక్షణాలు: ఆశ్వాసాల విభజన, నగరం, పర్వతం, ఋతువులు, ఉద్యానవిహారం వంటి వర్ణనలు, శృంగార రసానికి ప్రాధాన్యం, శ్లేష వంటి అలంకారాల వాడకం, ఇష్టదేవతా స్తుతి, కవి వంశ వర్ణనతో కావ్యాన్ని ఆరంభించే సంప్రదాయం (సరిచూడాలి). కొన్ని ప్రబంధాలు పురాణ కథ కాకుండా కవి కల్పించిన కథను ఆధారంగా తీసుకున్నాయి.
Signs to look for: division into ashvasams, descriptions of a city, a mountain, the seasons and garden outings, stress on the sringara rasa, use of figures such as slesha, and a convention of opening with praise of a favourite deity and an account of the poet's lineage (subject to verification). Some prabandhas rest on a story invented by the poet rather than a Puranic one.

The word is used both for a form of writing and, at times, as the name of a period (the prabandha age). This page is about the form. Scholars differ on which works are prabandhas, which was the first, and how the form relates to the mahakavyam, so none of these is decided here. The works named are examples only.
