సామాన్య, సంయుక్త, సంక్లిష్ట వాక్యాలు
Simple, compound and complex sentences
నిర్మాణాన్ని బట్టి వాక్యాలు మూడు రకాలు: ఒకే సమాపక క్రియ ఉంటే సామాన్యం, ఒకటి కంటే ఎక్కువ సామాన్య వాక్యాలు కలిస్తే సంయుక్తం, అసమాపక క్రియలతో కూడినది సంక్లిష్టం.
By structure sentences are of three kinds: simple, with one finite verb; compound, made of more than one simple sentence joined; and complex, containing non-finite verbs as well.
నిర్వచనం Definition
Simple sentence (samanya vakyam): a sentence with one finite verb that says one thing.
Compound sentence (samyukta vakyam): one made of two or more simple sentences joined together; each part has its own finite verb. They are joined by words such as "mariyu", "kani" and "leda", or by a comma.
Complex sentence (sanklishta vakyam): a sentence with one finite verb and also one or more non-finite verbs (such as ktvartham or chedartham). The finite verb tells the main sense and the others are attached to it.
గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples
How to recognise them: count the finite verbs in the sentence and see whether there are non-finite verbs.
Simple: ravi pustakam chadivadu.
Compound: ravi pustakam chadivadu, gita patalu padindi. (Two finite verbs: chadivadu, padindi.)
Complex: ravi pustakam chadivi nidrapoyadu. (One finite verb, nidrapoyadu, and one non-finite verb, chadivi.)
Complex: varsham kuriste pantalu pandutayi. (The non-finite chedartham kuriste and the finite verb pandutayi.)
గమనికలు Notes
The names of these kinds differ by book: some books call the complex sentence samslishta or mishra vakyam (subject to verification). The borderline between a compound and a complex sentence is also drawn slightly differently in different books. In examinations follow the definition given in the prescribed textbook.
