క్త్వార్థకం

Ktvartham (the "having done" form)

క్త్వార్థకం అంటే ఒక పని ముగిసిన తరువాత మరొక పని జరిగిందని చెప్పే అసమాపక క్రియా రూపం (చదివి, వచ్చి). రెండు పనులకూ కర్త సాధారణంగా ఒక్కరే.

Ktvartham is the non-finite verb form that says one action was completed and then another happened (chadivi, vachchi, "having read", "having come"). The doer of both actions is usually the same.

నిర్వచనం Definition

Ktvartham is the non-finite verb that tells that one action was completed and that another happened after it. It does not close the sentence; a samapaka verb comes at the end. The form ends in "-i", as if the suffix "-i" were added to the root (chadivi, vachchi, tini).

This page takes up one of the four forms named on the page "Kridantalu".

గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples

How to recognise it: if "having done ..., then ..." fits the sentence, the verb is ktvartham.

atadu chadivi velladu. (Having read, he went.)

ame vachchi kurchundi. (Having come, she sat.)

varu tini padukunnaru. (Having eaten, they lay down.)

In every sentence the doer of both actions is the same (he, she, they).

గమనికలు Notes

It is said in textbooks that having the same doer for both actions is the usual feature of this form. At times it may also suggest a reason (subject to verification). When the doers differ, other forms are used (such as the chedartham).

Full details of these forms are not given here; this is a textbook-level account. As the page "Kridantalu" says, the kinds of non-finite verbs and their names differ by book.
