నిర్వచనం Definition

శత్రర్థకం అంటే ఒక పని జరుగుతూ ఉండగానే మరొక పని జరిగిందని తెలిపే అసమాపక క్రియ. ఇది వాక్యాన్ని ముగించదు; చివర సమాపక క్రియ వస్తుంది. ఈ రూపం ధాతువుకు '-తూ' చేరి ఏర్పడుతుంది (చదువుతూ, పాడుతూ, నవ్వుతూ); సాహిత్య భాషలో '-చు' రూపం ఉంటుంది (చదువుచు).

Shatrartham is the non-finite verb that tells that one action goes on while another happens. It does not close the sentence; a samapaka verb comes at the end. The form is made by adding "-tu" to the root (chaduvutu, padutu, navvutu); in literary language there is a "-chu" form (chaduvuchu).

గుర్తించే పద్ధతి: 'చేస్తూ ఉండగానే...' అని చదివితే వాక్యం సరిపోతే, క్రియ శత్రర్థకం.

ఆమె పాడుతూ నడిచింది. (పాడుతూ ఉండగానే నడిచింది.)

అతడు నవ్వుతూ వచ్చాడు. (నవ్వుతూ ఉండగానే వచ్చాడు.)

క్త్వార్థకంలో ఒక పని ముగిసి మరొకటి జరుగుతుంది (చదివి వెళ్ళాడు); శత్రర్థకంలో రెండు పనులూ ఒకే సమయంలో జరుగుతాయి.

How to recognise it: if "while doing ..." fits the sentence, the verb is shatrartham.

ame chaduvutu navvindi. (She laughed while reading.)

ame padutu nadichindi. (She walked while singing.)

atadu navvutu vachchadu. (He came laughing.)

In the ktvartham one action ends and another follows (chadivi velladu); in the shatrartham the two actions go on at the same time.

రెండు పనులకూ కర్త ఒక్కరే అవడం ఈ రూపం యొక్క సాధారణ లక్షణం. 'చదువుతున్న' వంటి విశేషణ రూపాలను కొన్ని గ్రంథాలు శత్రర్థకంలోనే చేరుస్తాయి, మరికొన్ని వేరుగా చెబుతాయి (సరిచూడాలి).

Having the same doer for both actions is the usual feature of this form. Some books include adjective-like forms such as "chaduvutunna" under the shatrartham, and others treat them separately (subject to verification).
