నిర్వచనం Definition

అపాదాన కారకం అంటే ఒక వస్తువు లేదా వ్యక్తి దేని నుంచి వేరయ్యాడో లేదా బయలుదేరాడో, ఆ స్థానం. ఆరు కారకాల్లో ఇది ఐదవది.

తెలుగులో అపాదానం సాధారణంగా పంచమీ విభక్తిలో ఉంటుంది.

The apadana karakam is the point from which a thing or person separates or departs. It is the fifth of the six karakas.

In Telugu it is usually in the fifth case, panchami vibhakti.

క్రియకు ముందు 'దేని నుండి?' అని అడిగి చూడండి; దానికి వచ్చే సమాధానం అపాదానం.

చెట్టు నుండి పండు రాలింది. (దేని నుండి రాలింది? చెట్టు నుండి.)

ఆమె ఊరి నుండి వచ్చింది. (ఎక్కడి నుండి వచ్చింది? ఊరి నుండి.)

రెండు వాక్యాల్లోనూ ఒక వస్తువు లేదా వ్యక్తి ఒక చోటును విడిచి వేరయ్యారు.

Before the verb, ask "from what?". The answer is the apadana.

chettu nundi pandu ralindi. (Fell from what? From the tree.)

ame uri nundi vachchindi. (Came from where? From the village.)

In both sentences a thing or a person has left a place and become separate from it.

గమనికలు Notes

పంచమీ విభక్తి వేరుపడడంతో పాటు హేతువు ('భయం వలన'), పోలిక ('అతని కంటె') భావాలను కూడా చెబుతుంది (పంచమీ విభక్తి పేజీ చూడండి). వాటిని అపాదానంగా లెక్కించాలా అన్న విషయంలో పుస్తకాలు ఒకే విధంగా చెప్పవు (సరిచూడాలి). 'నుండి'ని విభక్తి ప్రత్యయంగా చూడాలా, విడి పదంగా చూడాలా అన్నది కూడా పుస్తకాన్ని బట్టి మారుతుంది.

Besides separation, the fifth case also expresses cause ("bhayam valana") and comparison ("atani kante") (see the page on panchami vibhakti). Books do not agree on whether these should be counted as apadana (subject to verification). Whether "nundi" is a case ending or a separate word also differs by book.
