నిర్వచనం Definition
The karma karakam is the person or thing on which the action done by the verb falls. Tradition describes it as what the doer chiefly wishes to reach (subject to verification). It occurs only in a sentence with a sakarmaka (transitive) verb.
In Telugu the object is usually in the second case, dvitiya vibhakti.
గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples
Before the verb, ask "whom?" or "what?". The answer is the object.
ramudu kattito pandunu koshadu. (Cut what? The fruit.)
atadu pustakanni chadivadu. (Read what? The book.)
ame patanu padindi. (Sang what? The song.)
In sentences with an akarmaka verb (ramudu navvadu, "Rama laughed") there is no object.
గమనికలు Notes
In speech the object ending is sometimes dropped (pustakam chadivadu), though the word is still understood as the object. In a karmani prayogam the object comes into the first case (pani cheyabadindi), so the object cannot always be said to be in the second case.
This is a textbook-level account; the count and definitions of the karakas differ by book (subject to verification).
