నిర్వచనం Definition

Ashirarthakam is the verb that blesses someone or wishes that good may come to them. Here the wish for good is the main thing, not a command or a request. A sentence with this sense is called an ashirartha sentence (subject to verification).

In Telugu it is usually formed by adding "gaka" to the root of the verb.

గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples

గుర్తించే పద్ధతి: క్రియ 'అవుగాక, కలుగుగాక' అని 'గాక' తో ముగిసి, 'అలా జరగాలి' అనే కోరికను చెబుతుంటే అది ఆశీరర్థకం.

నీకు శుభం కలుగుగాక.

నీవు చిరకాలం జీవించుగాక.

మంచి జరుగుగాక.

How to recognise it: if the verb ends in "gaka", as in "avugaka" or "kalugugaka", and says "may it be so", it is ashirarthakam.

niku shubham kalugugaka. (May good come to you.)

nivu chirakalam jivinchugaka. (May you live long.)

manchi jarugugaka. (May good happen.)

గమనికలు Notes

Books do not agree on the name "ashirarthakam" or on whether it is a separate kind (subject to verification). The "gaka" form is found mostly in literature, blessings and prayers, and less in everyday speech. This is a textbook-level account.
