నిర్వచనం Definition

ప్రార్థనార్థకం అంటే ఎదుటివారిని వినయంగా ఒక పని చేయమని కోరే క్రియ. ఇందులో ఆజ్ఞ కంటే విన్నపం, మర్యాద ప్రధానం. ఈ అర్థంతో కూడిన వాక్యాన్ని ప్రార్థనార్థక వాక్యం అంటారు.

తెలుగులో ఇది సాధారణంగా గౌరవంగా చెప్పే '-ండి' రూపంతో, 'దయచేసి' వంటి మాటలతో కలిసి వస్తుంది.

Prarthanarthakam is the verb that humbly asks someone to do something. Here courtesy and request count for more than a command. A sentence with this sense is called a prarthanartha sentence.

In Telugu it usually appears in the respectful "-ndi" form, together with words like "dayachesi" (please).

గుర్తించే పద్ధతి: 'దయచేసి' అని చేర్చి చదివినా వాక్యం సహజంగా ఉండి, వినయంగా అడుగుతున్నట్టు ఉంటే అది ప్రార్థనార్థకం.

దయచేసి కూర్చోండి.

దయచేసి వినండి.

ఇవి విధ్యర్థకంలోని '-ండి' రూపాలే; 'దయచేసి' వల్ల, స్వరం వల్ల అవి ఆజ్ఞ కాక విన్నపంగా వినిపిస్తాయి.

How to recognise it: if the sentence sounds natural with "dayachesi" added and reads as a humble request, it is prarthanarthakam.

dayachesi kurchondi. (Please sit.)

dayachesi vinandi. (Please listen.)

These are the same "-ndi" forms as in vidhyartham; because of "dayachesi" and the tone they sound like a request and not a command.

గమనికలు Notes

కొన్ని గ్రంథాలు ప్రార్థనార్థకాన్ని వేరే రకంగా చెప్పవు, విధ్యర్థకంలోనే ఒక ఛాయగా చెబుతాయి (సరిచూడాలి). సాహిత్య భాషలో ప్రార్థనా రూపాలు వేరుగా ఉండవచ్చు; అవి ఇక్కడ వివరించలేదు. ఇక్కడ ఇచ్చింది పాఠ్యపుస్తక స్థాయి వివరణ.

Some books do not give prarthanarthakam as a separate kind but treat it as a shade of vidhyartham (subject to verification). Request forms in literary language may differ; they are not described here. This is a textbook-level account.
