Grandhikam means the language of books. The form of Telugu preserved in kavyas, prabandhas and the writings of traditional scholars is called grandhika bhasha. It keeps the old forms and follows the rules of grammar closely.

Notes
Traditional grammar books mostly describe the grandhika bhasha, which is why sandhi, samasam and case are taught in schools in their literary forms. To read the kavyas one needs to know it. The division into grandhikam and vyavaharikam is only a convenience; in the history of the language many levels are said to lie between the two (subject to verification).
