నిర్వచనం Definition

ఋ, ౠ అచ్చులు: ఋ హ్రస్వం, ౠ దీర్ఘం. ఇవి సంస్కృత వర్ణమాలలోని 'ర' ధ్వనితో కూడిన అచ్చులు. తెలుగు వర్ణమాలలో కూడా అచ్చుల వరుసలో ఇవి ఉంటాయి (అచ్చులు, హల్లులు పేజీ చూడండి).

ఆధునిక తెలుగు ఉచ్చారణలో ఋ దాదాపు 'రు' లాగా వినిపిస్తుంది (సరిచూడాలి). సంప్రదాయ వ్యాకరణం దీన్ని మూర్ధన్య అచ్చుగా చెబుతుంది (ఉచ్చారణ స్థానాలు పేజీ చూడండి).

The vowels ru and ruu: ru is short and ruu is long. They are vowels with an "r" sound taken from the Sanskrit alphabet. The Telugu varnamala also lists them in its row of vowels (see the page on achulu and hallulu).

In modern Telugu pronunciation ru sounds almost like "ru" (subject to verification). Traditional grammar calls it a murdhanya (retroflex) vowel (see the page on uccharana sthanalu).

అక్షరంగా: ఋషి.

హల్లుతో కలిసిన గుర్తుగా: కృష్ణుడు (కృ), మృగం (మృ), తృణం (తృ), హృదయం (హృ).

గుణింతం పేజీలో చూపినట్లు క గుణింతంలో కృ, కౄ రూపాలు వస్తాయి.

ౠ చాలా అరుదుగా వాడే అక్షరం; దాని గుర్తు ౄ.

As a letter: rushi.

As a sign joined to a consonant: krishnudu (kru), mrigam (mru), trinam (tru), hridayam (hru).

As the page on gunintalu shows, the ka gunintam includes the forms kru and kruu.

The letter ruu is rarely used; its sign is the long vowel sign seen in kruu.

Ru and ruu appear only in words of Sanskrit origin and not in native Telugu words (subject to verification). Books do not agree on how to count these letters among the vowels, or how to count lu and luu; some modern textbooks do not show them in the list of vowels.
