కర్మధారయ సమాసం
Karmadharaya samasam (descriptive compound)
కర్మధారయ సమాసం అంటే రెండు పదాలూ ఒకే విభక్తిలో ఉండి, ఒక పదం మరొక పదాన్ని విశేషించే సమాసం (విశేషణం-విశేష్యం). విగ్రహవాక్యంలో "అయిన", "వంటి" వంటి మాటలు వస్తాయి.
A karmadharaya compound is one whose two members stand in the same case, one describing the other (adjective and noun, or a comparison). Its analysing phrase typically uses words like "ayina" (that is) or "vanti" (like).
నిర్వచనం Definition
In a karmadharaya compound the two members are in the same case and point to the same person or thing, one of them describing the other. For this reason it is also described as a compound with an adjective-and-noun relation.
For example, erracheera = errani cheera, "a red sari". "Errani" qualifies the sari, and the two together name a single thing.
Traditionally karmadharaya is divided into subkinds according to where the describing word stands, whether a comparison is involved, and similar features.
గుర్తించడం, ఉదాహరణలు Recognising it, examples
How to recognise it: open the compound up. If the two words come out in the same case with words like "ayina" or "vanti", and one gives a quality of the other, it is a karmadharaya.
nallakaki = nallani kaki, "a black crow".
tellakaluva = tellani kaluva, "a white water lily".
chinnapilla = chinnadaina pilla, "a small child".
In a tatpurusha a case relation (nu, yokka, lo and so on) links the two words; in a karmadharaya there is no such link, and both stand in the same case.

Some books name subkinds of karmadharaya such as visheshana-purvapada, visheshana-uttarapada, upamana-purvapada, upamana-uttarapada, sambhavana-purvapada and avadharana-purvapada. The names and the number of subkinds differ by book (subject to verification). In this family only the visheshana-purvapada karmadharaya has a page of its own.
Some books treat dvigu as a close relative of karmadharaya and others as a separate compound. Words such as nilakanthudu can be a karmadharaya or a bahuvrihi depending on the analysing phrase; the decision rests on what the word is taken to point to.
