సప్తమీ తత్పురుషం తత్పురుష సమాసంలో ఒక ఉపరకం. ఇందులో పూర్వపదం సప్తమీ విభక్తి భావంతో (ఎక్కడ, దేనియందు అన్న అర్థంతో) ఉంటుంది, కానీ ఆ ప్రత్యయం సమాసంలో కనిపించదు. ఉత్తరపదం ప్రధానం.

ఉదాహరణకు 'వనవాసం' = వనమునందు వాసం.

The saptami tatpurusha is a subkind of tatpurusha. Its first member carries the sense of the seventh case (where, in what), but the ending does not appear in the compound. The last member is the main one.

For example, vanavasam = vanamunandu vasam, "living in a forest".

గుర్తించే పద్ధతి: సమస్త పదాన్ని విప్పేటప్పుడు పూర్వపదం తర్వాత 'అందు' లేదా 'లో' చేర్చితే అర్థం సరిపోయి, ఉత్తరపదం ప్రధానంగా ఉంటే అది సప్తమీ తత్పురుషం.

ఇలాంటి సమాసాల్లో పూర్వపదం ప్రదేశాన్నో, కాలాన్నో చెబుతుందని చెప్పవచ్చు.

How to recognise it: when opening the compound up, put "andu" or "lo" after the first member. If the sense fits and the last member is the main one, it is a saptami tatpurusha.

vanavasam = vanamunandu vasam, "living in a forest".

grihapravesham = grihamunandu pravesham, "entering a house".

In such compounds the first member typically names a place or a time.
