Shashthi tatpurusha (sixth-case dependent compound)

A shashthi tatpurusha is a tatpurusha in which the sixth case (relation or possession, with "yokka") is dropped from the first member. The analysing phrase puts "yokka" back after it.

Definition

The shashthi tatpurusha is a subkind of tatpurusha. Its first member carries the sense of the sixth case (the relation expressed by "yokka"), but the ending does not appear in the compound. The last member is the main one.

For example, rajabhatudu = raju yokka bhatudu, "the king's soldier".

How to recognise it: when opening the compound up, put "yokka" after the first member. If the sense fits and the last member is the main one, it is a shashthi tatpurusha.

rajabhatudu = raju yokka bhatudu, "the king's soldier".

enugukommu = enugu yokka kommu, "the tusk of an elephant".

rajaputrudu = raju yokka putrudu, "the king's son".

In this kind the last member often names a part, a relative or a possession of the first member (subject to verification).
