నిర్వచనం Definition

ఇది కర్మధారయ సమాసంలో పోలికతో కూడిన ఉపరకం. ఉపమాన పూర్వపద కర్మధారయానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా, ఇక్కడ ఉపమేయం (పోల్చబడేది) మొదట, ఉపమానం (పోలికకు ఆధారమైనది) చివర వస్తాయి.

ఉదాహరణకు 'పురుషసింహుడు' = సింహము వంటి పురుషుడు. ఇక్కడ 'పురుషుడు' ఉపమేయం, 'సింహం' ఉపమానం.

This is a karmadharaya subkind that involves a comparison. Unlike the upamana-purvapada kind, here the upameyam (the thing compared) stands first and the upamanam (the standard of comparison) stands last.

For example, purushasimhudu = simhamu vanti purushudu, "a man like a lion". Here the man is the upameyam and the lion is the upamanam.

గుర్తించే పద్ధతి: సమస్త పదాన్ని విప్పి, చివరి పదాన్ని 'వంటి' తో ముందుకు తెచ్చి చదవండి. చివరి పదం పోలికకు ఆధారమై, మొదటిది పోల్చబడేదైతే అది ఉపమాన ఉత్తరపద కర్మధారయం.

పురుషసింహుడు = సింహము వంటి పురుషుడు.

ముఖపద్మం = పద్మము వంటి ముఖం.

పోలికకు ఆధారమైనది మొదట వచ్చే రకం (ఉపమాన పూర్వపద కర్మధారయం) వేరే పేజీలో ఉంది.

How to recognise it: open the compound up, bringing the last word forward with "vanti". If the last word is what the comparison is made with and the first is what is compared, it is an upamana-uttarapada karmadharaya.

purushasimhudu = simhamu vanti purushudu, "a man like a lion".

mukhapadmam = padmamu vanti mukham, "a face like a lotus".

The difference between the upamana-purvapada and upamana-uttarapada kinds lies only in the order of the words. The names and definitions of the subkinds, and which subkind a given word falls under, differ by book (subject to verification). The analysing phrases here are one possible analysis only.
