నిర్వచనం Definition

ఇది ద్వంద్వ సమాసంలో ఒక ఉపరకం. 'ఇతరేతర' అంటే ఒకదానితో ఒకటి అని అర్థం. ఇందులో ప్రతి పదం తన స్వతంత్ర అర్థాన్ని నిలుపుకుంటుంది; సమస్త పదం ఆ వ్యక్తులను లేదా వస్తువులను ఒక్కొక్కటిగా లెక్కించి కలిపి చెబుతుంది.

ఉదాహరణకు 'రామలక్ష్మణులు' = రాముడును లక్ష్మణుడును. ఇద్దరూ విడివిడి వ్యక్తులు; సమస్త పదం ఇద్దరినీ కలిపి చెబుతుంది.

This is a subkind of dvandva. "Itaretara" means "one with another". Here each member keeps its own separate meaning; the compound counts the persons or things one by one and names them together.

For example, ramalakshmanulu = ramudunu lakshmanudunu, "Rama and Lakshmana". They are two separate persons, and the compound names both together.

సమస్త పదం బహువచనంలో ఉండి, క్రియ కూడా బహువచనంలో వస్తుంది (రామలక్ష్మణులు వచ్చారు).

How to recognise it: open the compound up and name each member separately (with "yu" or "nu"). If each member stands for a separate person or thing and the whole is spoken of in the plural, it is an itaretara dvandva.

ramalakshmanulu = ramudunu lakshmanudunu, "Rama and Lakshmana".

annadammulu = annayu tammudunu, "elder brother and younger brother".

tallidandrulu = talliyu tandriyu, "mother and father".

The compound is in the plural, and the verb is plural too (ramalakshmanulu vachcharu, "Rama and Lakshmana came").
