నిర్వచనం Definition

రుగాగమసంధి తెలుగు సంధుల్లో ఒకటి. 'ఆగమం' అంటే కొత్తగా వచ్చి చేరే వర్ణం. ఇక్కడ వచ్చి చేరేది 'రు'. 'ఆలు' అంటే స్త్రీ, భార్య అని అర్థం. పేద, ముద్ద, జవ, మనుమ వంటి పదాల తరువాత 'ఆలు' వచ్చి సమాసం ఏర్పడినప్పుడు, వాటి మధ్య 'రు' వచ్చి చేరి, ఫలితంగా 'రాలు' అనే రూపం ఏర్పడుతుంది.

Rugagama sandhi is one of the Telugu sandhis. An "agama" is a sound that is newly added. Here the added sound is "ru". "Alu" means woman or wife. When "alu" follows words such as peda, mudda, java and manuma to form a compound, "ru" comes in between them, and the result ends in "-ralu".

నియమం, ఉదాహరణలు Rule and examples

నియమం (పాఠ్యపుస్తక రూపంలో): కర్మధారయ సమాసంలో పేద మొదలైన పదాల తరువాత 'ఆలు' పరమైనప్పుడు 'రు' ఆగమంగా వస్తుంది.

ఉదాహరణలు:

పేద + ఆలు = పేదరాలు (పేద స్త్రీ)

మనుమ + ఆలు = మనుమరాలు (మనవరాలు)

జవ + ఆలు = జవరాలు (యువతి)

The rule, in textbook form: in a karmadharaya compound, when "alu" follows peda and similar words, "ru" is added.

Examples:

peda + alu = pedaralu (a poor woman)

manuma + alu = manumaralu (a granddaughter)

java + alu = javaralu (a young woman)

గమనికలు Notes

కొన్ని సంస్కృత పదాల చివరి 'అ' కారం 'ఉ' కారంగా మారి, అప్పుడు 'రు' వస్తుందని పుస్తకాలు చెబుతాయి; ఉదాహరణకు నాయక + ఆలు = నాయకురాలు (సరిచూడాలి).

'పేదాది' అంటే పేద వంటి పదాల జాబితా ఏమిటి, ఈ సంధి ఎంత తప్పనిసరి అనే వివరాలు గ్రంథాన్ని బట్టి మారవచ్చు; ఇక్కడ చేర్చలేదు.

Books say that with some Sanskrit words the final "a" turns into "u" and then "ru" comes; for example nayaka + alu = nayakuralu (subject to verification).

Which words belong to the "pedadi" group of words like peda, and how strict the rule is, may differ by book; these are not included here.
